FREE Elementary SS Resources

It was really a pleasure to have so many elementary teachers attend the TEKS Con session about elementary social studies resources this past summer. Obviously, not everyone using the TEKS Resource System gets to attend the conference so I decided to share a little from that session. Besides taking time to explore how to integrate spatial reasoning activities and literature into elementary social studies instruction, we also shared some phenomenal resources. What makes these resource so great.  They are engaging and they are FREE.

I also hope you noticed that we have added a new resource in the system.  The NCSS Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People spreadsheet is a compilation of social studies related books that have been reviewed and recommended by the National Council of Social Studies. The spreadsheet format allows you to sort the list of books in a variety of ways.  Please keep in mind the books do not represent suggestions by the TEKS Resource System.  Additionally, the books on this list were not vetted or reviewed by the TEKS Resource System.  Be sure to share the resource with your librarian, so they can start stocking the library with titles you want to use in your social studies instruction.

Let us know if you have other FREE resources you find useful for elementary social studies or let us know how you utilized any of these.  Happy planning.
