Time for a Shoutout

We are  reaching that “light at the end of the tunnel” time. Both in terms of the school year coming to a close and the restoration of post-pandemic life. How educators have adapted, sacrificed, and persevered has been incredible. Recently this tweet got my attention.

“Here’s to all the teachers who are flying under the radar… not getting much attention. Their engaging lessons aren’t on Twitter. Their cool interactions with kids aren’t captured on YouTube. But they’re still crushing it. And they’re making a difference for a lot of students.”  Danny Steele

I echo this sentiment and want to encourage you to give some attention to those educators that have been “crushing it.” How? Consider nominating yourself or a colleague for one of the Texas Council for the Social Studies (TCSS) teacher awards. TCSS is taking nominations for the following awards.

  • Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. These awards are given in recognition of active participation in local, state, and national social studies councils AND outstanding social studies teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levelsDownload the application.     (There is a TOY Elementary, TOY Middle School, & TOY High School)
  • Outstanding Higher Education Faculty of the Year Award. These awards are given in recognition of active participation in local, state, and national social studies councils AND outstanding social studies teaching at the higher education levelDownload the application.
  • NOVA (Early Career Educator) Award. Given to an outstanding social studies teacher at the elementary or secondary level who has completed at least one year of teaching and is now in his or her second or third year of teaching. Download the application.
  • Billy Sills Distinguished Service Award. Presented each year in recognition of a member’s contributions and long-time service to social studies professional organizations: local councils, TCSS, and NCSS. Download the application.

All required materials must be sent to the Chair of the Special Awards Committee Anda Lee Seat at awards@txcss.net via email by June 1. Reach out to Anda Lee if you have any questions.

Keep on “crushing it” and let’s crush those nominations.
